Question Themes are intended to help with survey design as well as analysis and presentation of results. Think of them as the survey objectives. They are used to group survey questions together when designing and constructing a survey. A survey item may have more than one theme attached to it. Themes can be colour coded to make planning and reporting easier.
When designing surveys, we recommend starting with the overall goals and objectives and then creating the Question Themes that will help to achieve the overall goals. Each Theme can have its own goal and objectives.
So, let's say an objective is to obtain demographic information from the survey. Create a Question Theme called "Demographics". Another objective might be to assess leadership and the Question Theme could be called "Leadership".
